This year, gear up for a spectacular display of nature's power and engineering prowess with the High Falls Dam Release at Lake Glenville. As the dam releases whitewater into the west fork of the Tuckasegee River, witness a transformation of the serene High Falls into a formidable force, creating class IV rapids over a 5.5-mile stretch. This rare event is a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. 2024 Release Dates: April 27-28 June 8 July 6 & 27 August 10 & 24 The event is recommended for experienced boaters only due to the challenging nature of the rapids and the high flows. Duke Energy releases these flows to comply with license requirements and neither encourages nor discourages recreational use of high flows by the public. Visitors are advised to stay out of the water and enjoy the spectacle from a safe distance.

Airing of the quilts is a mountain tradition where women would take family quilts off the beds and hang them in the spring sunshine to freshen. Enjoy the beautiful display of quilts from quilters and quilt collectors. There will also be the popular fabric scrap exchange, a quilt pattern and book exchange, raffle and music.

The Mountain Artisans shows are famous for featuring just the biggest selection of authentic handcrafted art and craft in this area, with dozens of artisans participating in this annual event. There is a wide selection of heritage craft. Several of the old time quilters still make them one at a time just for you. Goat milk soap, pine needle baskets, white oak baskets, hand tied brooms and cotton woven rugs are hard to find and all here. Some of the most skilled doll craft, leather craft, and master jewelers around exhibit with us. Many of the gourd artists have won awards in competitions. You will understand why everyone who attends the shows just says, "Wow" when they attend and plans to come back next year!

The Village Green’s annual Fireworks Extravaganza will take place rain or shine on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024 on The Village Green Common’s Lawn! The evening will feature an incredible band, followed by an extraordinary fireworks show featuring thousands of colorful bursts. Admission is free, however, donations will be collected to help offset the cost of the event. Attendees are welcome to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics and coolers. The Village Green believes it is important to preserve this patriotic tradition for the Cashiers community! This event is one you don’t want to miss!

Presented by the Friends of Lake Glenville This event is in celebration of our nation’s birthday. This tradition started more than 20 years ago, when Stuart Hall and friends produced a remarkable show, with a very small budget, from a barge near Buck Knob Island. The show will again be based at The Point at Glenville Lake subdivision across the lake from Hattler Realty on Highway 107 N. There is always a large audience on boats that enjoy the fireworks from the water. The Friends of Lake Glenville is responsible for the organization and financing of this signature event and rely exclusively on private contributions. The show is scheduled to commence at dusk.

Nationally acclaimed painters from throughout the country set up their easels to capture the beauty of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau landscape and quaint mountain lifestyle. This type of outdoor location painting is known as en plein air, French for open air. The Cashiers Plein Air Festival is a biennial event held to raise funds to enhance The Village Green. During this week-long event, artists set up their easels in and around Cashiers to create original art depicting the area. These unique paintings are displayed for viewing and sale at The Village Green Commons. Other highlights include a special patron party, the Palette to Palate Affair, as well as live demonstrations by the artists. The Cashiers Plein Air Festival will take place July 15-20, 2024. As the dam releases whitewater into the west fork of the Tuckasegee River, witness a transformation of the serene High Falls into a formidable force, creating class IV rapids over a 5.5-mile stretch. This rare event is a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. 2024 Release Dates: April 27-28 June 8 July 6 & 27 August 10 & 24 The event is recommended for experienced boaters only due to the challenging nature of the rapids and the high flows. Duke Energy releases these flows to comply with license requirements and neither encourages nor discourages recreational use of high flows by the public. Visitors are advised to stay out of the water and enjoy the spectacle from a safe distance.

Groovin’ on The Green concerts will begin at 6:00pm, RAIN OR SHINE, held on The Village Green Common’s Lawn. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Picnics and coolers are welcome! Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and with their owners at all times. Food and beverage vendors will be on-site during each concert! The Village Green will continue offering the opportunity for a group to “Rent a Tent”. The Village Green will be providing fifteen 10×10 tents at $100 per tent, per concert. Tent reservation links will be open in early 2024, and are first come, first serve. A seasonal tradition, the Sapphire Valley Arts & Crafts Festivals were founded more 30 years ago. Each show is a two-day event ( Saturday and Sunday ). Enjoy live music, along with food and drink concessions, kids' activities and other special surprises! To ensure quality, the shows are juried by an artisan committee. The 14th Annual Youth Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, September 21st. This event is free and geared specifically towards kids with the intention of giving them a space to participate in a multitude of arts and crafts related activities. Our artists as well as community members provide demonstrations and/or activities for attendees to either observe or participate in. Demonstrations in glassblowing, blacksmithing, raku, flameworking, etc. are generally available to watch. Activities range in a variety of media, anywhere from ceramics, face painting, sewing, and so much more. Food is available for purchase on site from local vendors. There will be no on site parking available. There will be free satellite parking available as well as free shuttles running to and from all locations.

A frightfully-fun family friendly Halloween event! The Village Green, Albert-Carlton Cashiers Community Library, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau collaborate to bring the second annual Halloween Block Party along Frank Allen Road. Enjoy culinary delights from a food truck, plus lots of fun and games, and tricks and treats from participating organizations! A portion of Frank Allen Road will be closed so families and friends can walk to each organization! Rain or Shine
