Every Friday night, Memorial Day through Labor Day, bring a picnic blanket and chair to enjoy Concerts on the Creek at Sylva’s Bridge Park. In Jackson County, the Town of Sylva, Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce team up to produce the Concerts on the Creek series at the Bridge Park gazebo in Sylva every Friday from 7-9 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. Occasionally, these events will feature food truck and craft beer vendors as well. Lineup to be announced once 2019 schedule is set.

Experienced paddlers from throughout the southeast turn out for the West Fork annual recreational releases. During the summer months, the Lake Glenville Dam releases whitewater into the west fork of the Tuckasegee River, creating class IV rapids over a 5.5-mile stretch.  Release dates for 2019 are April 20-21, June 8, July 13, July 27, August 10 & 24. Access to the High Falls trail is directly across from the Lake Glenville sandy swim beach. WARNING: High flows and the natural environment where such flows occur can create dangerous conditions in the bypassed reach. Duke Energy releases these flows solely to comply with its license requirements. Duke Energy neither encourages nor discourages recreational use of high flows by the public. Any recreational use by the public during high flows should be limited to experienced boaters.

The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley presents "Art For A Cause": two arts & crafts fairs that take place in the spring over Memorial Day weekend and in the fall over Labor Day weekend. Both events showcase some of the finest arts and craftspeople in the Southeast. On display is work from more than 90 of the finest artisans from throughout the Southeast. From unique ironwork and woodcraft to hand-thrown pottery, hand-stitched textiles and homemade cakes, pies, jellies and jams, there’s something to please every artistic palate and tempt even the finickiest of tastes. Members of the Cashiers Rotary will also show off their culinary skills at the refreshment booth, offering hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and more to keep you fueled up as you hunt for the perfect piece to add to your collection.

Groovin’ On The Green has gleaned popularity as a Friday night destination in Cashiers.  The music is always good, the program varied.  Summertime, the green of the green, the blankets and chairs all around with happy people and their dogs.  That’s what Groovin’ is all about.  Great music in a stunning venue in the beautiful weather.  The summer concert series for 2019 will be held Friday at 6:30 pm at the Village Commons. Musician lineup will be added to this listing once set.

Tour de Cashiers

Join us for the annual Tour de Cashiers Mountain Cycling Experience across scenic mountain byways of western North Carolina. This popular pedaling event attracts participants from the southeast, many returning every year for the traditional ride, and bragging rights for completing one of the most challenging rides in the nation. Runners can also participate in a 5K race the same morning. The mountainous route features stunning scenery and challenging ascents with total elevation gains of up to 10,500 feet for the century and 7,000 feet for the metric century. The Century 100-mile and the Metric 62-mile rides include long climbs and fast descents. The Quarter Century 25-mile route is a great introduction to cycling along the Blue Ridge. All three routes provide challenge and inspiration for those wanting to test their conditioning on an all-day supported ride.

Green Energy Park Youth Arts Fest

A celebration of art, music, green energy & community fun for the entire family! Each year the Green Energy Park host dozens of organizations and regional artists who come to share their knowledge and the love of the arts. Last year we had over 1000 visitors! You and your family can enjoy: • Face painting • Jewelry making • Throwing clay pots • Painting with flip-flops • Handprint painting our logo on canvas • Block printing • Recycled bugs • Live entertainment • Food from B & Al's Come watch demonstrations of glassblowing, blacksmithing, pottery, printing, gem cutting, torchworking and raku kiln firing. We'll have live entertainment, good food and fun! The metal forges and the glass furnaces used by the artists use renewable landfill gas from a near-by closed landfill to power them. All the artists at the festival will enjoy helping children to create their own works of art. One of the highlights of the one-day festival is the Green Energy Park 'Trash Dragon,' a gargantuan costume created and built by local artists totally out of trash. Timm Muth, Director of the Green Energy Park, said, "it's fun and educational when children can see something beautiful being created out of stuff that people throw away." Mountain Heritage Day

The 45th annual Mountain Heritage Day will be a combination old-fashioned mountain fair and showcase for Southern Appalachian music, arts, dance and song, with the atmosphere of a big family reunion. Visitors will find three stages of traditional old-time, gospel, and bluegrass music and dance, with plenty of fiddles, banjos, and clogging. Festival-goers are invited to join in workshops at the Circle Tent and participate in shape-note singing, one of the mountains’ sacred traditions. Admission and parking are free so bring your family and experience all that our rich heritage has to offer. Don't miss the Smoky Mountain Splendor Quilt Show at the Ramsey Regional Activity Center on campus, featuring 300+ quilts, displays, vendors and more. Mountain Heritage Day is recognized as one of the "Top 20" events in the Southeast for the month of September.

JCGS Cruise-In Car Show

The Jackson County Genealogical Society’s annual Cruise-In, set for Sunday, September 29 in Sylva, will include classic cars (1988 and older), current-day muscle cars and “rat rods” (custom creations designed to express the builder’s take on a retro junk vehicle), as well as music and food. Registration fees, T-shirt donations, food and beverage sales, and a 50-50 raffle raise money to help cover JCGS operating costs. Cars will be displayed from 2 until 4 p.m., when they depart for the parade that makes this event unique among regional car shows – a law-enforcement escorted cruise through Sylva and Dillsboro, led by a vintage police car. Some may be sad to see summer go, but the crisp, cool fall air brings lots of fun to the mountain town of Cashiers, NC. The change of seasons calls thousands of “leaf peepers” to our area to enjoy the brilliant fall foliage. The festival is recognized as one of the "Top 20" events in the Southeast for the month of October. The Cashiers Valley Leaf Festival has been an annual attraction for over 10 years and is held to celebrate the beginning of autumn in the Western North Carolina mountains. This three-day festival will take place over the long Columbus Day holiday weekend. Visitors who attend will shop for unique handcrafted treasures from more than 100 artisans and merchants throughout The Village Green’s 13+ acre park. Wood, pottery, jewelry, photography are just some of the many items that will be displayed and for sale throughout the weekend. Guests will sample a variety of food and beverages and enjoy live music on two stages during the event.

Spirit of the Smokies Car Show

The 21st annual Spirit of the Smokies Car Show will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Front Street in Dillsboro. The show is sponsored by the Sylva Rotary Club with the Smoky Mountain Cruisers and all proceeds will benefit local non-profit organizations. Last year’s event had more than 100 participants, with vehicles coming from Western North Carolina, North Georgia, and East Tennessee. Categories include: Classic Cars, Motorcycles, Special Interest Vehicles, Modified Street Machines, Trucks, Street Rods and Farm Equipment. Trophies will be awarded to each category winner.

Christmas in Sylva, a Holiday weekend

Kick off the holidays with Christmas in Sylva, a Holiday weekend. Our event starts with the official tree lighting and concert on the historical courthouse steps Friday night. Storefronts on Main and Mill Streets will be done up for Christmas and open for holiday shopping. Santa will make an early visit Saturday for photos. A Winter Market on Main Street Saturday afternoon will feature local crafters and food. Live music will add a festive touch to the Market. The Sylva Christmas Parade on Sunday is the highlight of the weekend. Starting at the courthouse, the parade goes down Main Street. Shops will be open for some holiday shopping. Santa's official arrival comes at the end of the parade.

Cashiers Christmas Parade

Come out and Enjoy the 45th Annual Cashiers Christmas Parade at noon! The parade route starts at Old Cashiers School Road and proceeds on 107 North towards the Crossroads where attendees can enjoy live commentary of the parade on the amplifier system. The parade continues down Hwy 64 West ending at the Cashiers Community Center and Cashiers/Glenville Volunteer Fire Department. Watch a live streaming broadcast of the parade at www.sapphirevalley.com and use #CashiersNCChristmasParade with your own photos and videos.
