Music fills the air in The Village Green no matter the season. Groovin’ on The Green remains a vibrant, FREE summer concert series, creating unforgettable music experiences for the community! Groovin’ on The Green concerts will begin at 6:00pm, RAIN OR SHINE, held on The Village Green Common’s Lawn. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Picnics and coolers are welcome! Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and with their owners at all times. Food and beverage vendors will be on-site during each concert! The Village Green will continue offering the opportunity for a group to “Rent a Tent”. The Village Green will be providing fifteen 10×10 tents at $100 per tent, per concert. Tent reservation links will be open in early 2024, and are first come, first serve. Some of the world’s finest musicians have come from Western North Carolina and that rich tradition carries on today. Here in Jackson County, the Town of Sylva, Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce team up to produce the Concerts on the Creek series at the Bridge Park gazebo in Sylva every Friday from 7-9 p.m., typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The 15th annual season will start on Friday, May 31 (Memorial Day weekend) and end on Friday, Aug. 30 (Labor Day weekend). That will be 15 Fridays of Concerts on the Creek, with the Fireworks Festivities and concert on Tuesday, July 4 sprinkled in for good measure. Summertime Mountain Artisans Arts & Crafts Show

Ramsey Activity Center 92 Catamount Rd, Cullowhee, NC, United States

The Mountain Artisans shows are famous for featuring just the biggest selection of authentic handcrafted art and craft in this area, with dozens of artisans participating in this annual event. There is a wide selection of heritage craft. Several of the old time quilters still make them one at a time just for you. Goat milk soap, pine needle baskets, white oak baskets, hand tied brooms and cotton woven rugs are hard to find and all here. Some of the most skilled doll craft, leather craft, and master jewelers around exhibit with us. Many of the gourd artists have won awards in competitions. You will understand why everyone who attends the shows just says, "Wow" when they attend and plans to come back next year!

The town's annual July 4 Fireworks in Sylva should begin at dark (generally around 9:45 p.m.) and are visible from various locations throughout downtown Sylva and the immediate surrounding areas. Free concert from 6:30-9:30 p.m., by Gotcha Groove (classic rock/pop/soul/beach covers) at Bridge Park in Sylva, N.C. Bring a chair or blanket. Pets must be on a leash. Food and beverage vendors on site. No smoking, vaping, coolers or tents allowed. Children's activities from 4-8 p.m. by the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department. Fireworks at dark (approximately 9:30 p.m.).

Cashiers Plein Air Festival

Nationally acclaimed painters from throughout the country set up their easels to capture the beauty of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau landscape and quaint mountain lifestyle. This type of outdoor location painting is known as en plein air, French for open air. The Cashiers Plein Air Festival is a biennial event held to raise funds to enhance The Village Green. During this week-long event, artists set up their easels in and around Cashiers to create original art depicting the area. These unique paintings are displayed for viewing and sale at The Village Green Commons. Other highlights include a special patron party, the Palette to Palate Affair, as well as live demonstrations by the artists. The Cashiers Plein Air Festival will take place July 15-20, 2024. Green Energy Park Youth Arts Fest

The 14th Annual Youth Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, September 21st. This event is free and geared specifically towards kids with the intention of giving them a space to participate in a multitude of arts and crafts related activities. Our artists as well as community members provide demonstrations and/or activities for attendees to either observe or participate in. Demonstrations in glassblowing, blacksmithing, raku, flameworking, etc. are generally available to watch. Activities range in a variety of media, anywhere from ceramics, face painting, sewing, and so much more. Food is available for purchase on site from local vendors. There will be no on site parking available. There will be free satellite parking available as well as free shuttles running to and from all locations.

Mountain Heritage Day

Ramsey Activity Center 92 Catamount Rd, Cullowhee, NC, United States

The 50th annual Mountain Heritage Day will be a combination old-fashioned mountain fair and showcase for Southern Appalachian music, arts, dance and song, with the atmosphere of a big family reunion. Visitors will find three stages of traditional old-time, gospel, and bluegrass music and dance, with plenty of fiddles, banjos, and clogging. Festival-goers are invited to join in workshops at the Circle Tent and participate in shape-note singing, one of the mountains’ sacred traditions. Admission and parking are free so bring your family and experience all that our rich heritage has to offer. Don't miss the Smoky Mountain Splendor Quilt Show at the Ramsey Regional Activity Center on campus, featuring 300+ quilts, displays, vendors and more. Mountain Heritage Day is recognized as one of the "Top 20" events in the Southeast for the month of September.

WNC Pottery Festival

Showcasing the work of more than 40 master potters from 13 states, this year’s WNC Pottery Festival will be held at Sylva’s Bridge Park. A variety of clay art styles will be presented. Those who purchase a ticket online will be able to enter 30 minutes early for a special event preview. The festival is juried and the lineup of potters is impressive. You won't want to miss it! The 49th Annual Cashiers Christmas Parade is almost here, and Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming to Cashiers! Mark your calendars and join us on Saturday, December 2, at 3:00 PM. We're excited to showcase over forty festive floats and this year's Grand Marshal, Mark Kay Andrews, whose novel Bright Lights, Big Christmas inspired the parade's theme. There will be live coverage from the Cashiers Crossroads by The HighSouth https://thehighsouth.com/ The parade route starts on Highway 107 South from Cashiers School Road and heads north to the crossroads, where our parade Emcees, Drew English, and Sarah Jennings, will announce the participants and Spirit Award recipients to the crowd. The parade will turn left to head west on US Highway 64 to Frank Allen Road and the Cashiers Community Center.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Sapphire Valley offers the area’s finest skiing facility, boasting a state-of-the-art quad lift, a learning center slope and newly expanded, multiple lane, 500-foot snow tubing run. The actual open date is weather dependent but typically around the second to third week of December. Just above 3,400 feet elevation, Sapphire Valley offers a 1,600-foot main run with a vertical drop of 200 feet and a 500-foot snow tubing run. And now, Sapphire Valley Ski Area offers a moving carpet to quickly transport you back to the top of the slopes for multiple runs throughout each 1.75 hour session.
