East Fork Lakes

Described as “blue jewels along the swift waters of the Tuckasegee River’s East Fork,” these four gems, the East Fork Lakes, offer some wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities.

This group of lakes strung out along Hwy 281 was constructed by the Nantahala Power Company in the 1950s. The four stair-step, rock-filled, earthen-faced dams on the East Fork of the Tuckasegee River have been described as blue jewels encircled by forests. Take a trip up NC 281 to see the sight for yourself.
