Dillsboro Lights & Luminaries
Dillsboro’s annual Lights & Luminaries event is a must-see, multi-day holiday tradition. During the first two weekends in December, the quaint town of Dillsboro is transformed into a Hallmark-esque Christmas village, with over 2,500 luminaries lining the streets, creating a warm, candlelit glow. Stroll through downtown as twinkling lights adorn historic buildings and enjoy the sound of carolers serenading visitors. Local shops, many of which stay open late, offer hot cocoa, handmade crafts and unique holiday gifts.
Christmas in Sylva
Sylva, with its iconic Courthouse perched overlooking the historic downtown, goes all out for the holidays. The courthouse steps and grounds are illuminated with thousands of lights, creating a breathtaking backdrop for seasonal photos. The town’s Christmas tree, located at the bottom of the Courthouse stairs, serves as the town’s holiday centerpiece and is a sight to behold when lit up at night. Cashiers’ Village Lights
Visitors to The Village Green in Cashiers will enjoy sparkling light displays and festive decorations from Thanksgiving Weekend until February. Each year, the park is transformed into a Christmas-inspired haven and is adorned top-to-bottom in twinkling lights and decor. The Village Green is conveniently located in the center of town so visitors can easily check out local shopping and dining.
Shopping with Festive Decor
Holiday shoppers are in for a treat! During the last three Thursdays leading up to Christmas (December 5, 12 and 19), visitors can enjoy extended opening hours with local shops staying open until 8:30 p.m., along with visits from Santa PAWS (WCU’s Mascot) and carolers as they stroll through downtown spreading Christmas cheer. Families can also stop by the Undercut on Mill Street for a fun Christmas crafting session hosted by the Sylva Art and Design Committee from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM.
Jackson County Yuletide Market
Sylva’s inaugural Yuletide Market will take place on Saturday, December 21 from 5-8pm, offering the perfect opportunity for shoppers to explore artisan crafts, handmade goods, and holiday treats from local vendors, all while enjoying the beautifully decorated downtown Sylva. Kids will be welcome for visits with Santa, children’s crafts, caroling, and much more.
