Cashiers Designer Showhouse
August 20 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 8:00am, repeating until 08.27.2017
The Cashiers Historical Society will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its annual Showhouse fundraiser this year.
Showhouse 2017 will be held from Aug. 12 to Aug. 27 and will once again welcome many of the best interior decorators and designers in the Southeast to work their magic on not one, but three new houses. The featured homes will be in the new Cottage Walk community on Burns Street in Cashiers.
In addition to the houses themselves, lectures on fabric, color, furniture, lighting and accessories are being scheduled throughout the duration of the Showhouse.
Always an opportunity to see the latest in design trends, organizers of the event said the Cashiers Designer Showhouse will continue to provide inspiration to anyone decorating or redecorating a house or room.
One Day $40.00 if purchased in advance. $45.00 if purchased at entrance.
Multi Day $70.00 if purchased in advance. $75.00 if purchased at entrance.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.cashiershistoricalsociety.org
Tickets will be available at several locations in Cashiers and Highlands beginning June 1.
Tickets for online orders placed before June 1 will be mailed June 1.
This year we are featuring three newly constructed “cottages” called Cottage Walk located on Burns Street in downtown Cashiers. The Showhouses will be within easy walking distance of Cashiers shops and restaurants. The three cottages combined give our designers 27 “blank canvases” on which to perform their magic.
Ample parking will be available at the large lot on Frank Allen Road opposite the Cashiers/Glenville Fire Department headquarters and behind Wendy’s. If you are a Showhouse regular this is the same lot we used for many years prior to 2016. There will be a trolley running regular service from the parking lot to the Showhouse about every ten minutes. The Showhouse is only about a 12 minute walk from the parking lot to the Post Office and across the Village Green lawn. For those who wish to walk there will be signs marking the route. Parking is free every day except August 21, Eclipse Day, when there will be a $25 charge for parking.
The Designers are selected from among the leading designers in Cashiers and the Southeast.. We can’t list them all here but a full list will be available in the July edition of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles.
Burns Street is a short L shaped street running between State Route 107 South and Frank Allen Road. These are directions to the parking lot on Frank Allen Road.
- From the west and Highlands, take U.S Highway 64 to Cashiers. Coming down the hill into Cashiers take a right just past the Fire Station on Frank Allen Road. Entrance to the parking lot is on the left.
- From the East and Brevard, take U.S.Highway 64 to the traffic light in Cashiers. From the North and Sylva take State Route 107 to the traffic light in Cashiers. Take U.S.Route 64 West about ½ mile and turn left just past Wendy’s on to Frank Allen Road.
- From the South and Wahalla, take U.S.Route 28 to State Route 107 to Cashiers. At the first traffic light turn left onto Frank Allen Road and proceed past the Post Office to the parking lot.
August 11. Benefactors Dinner at Chattooga Club. By invitation only. If you are interested in becoming a member of Cashiers Historical Society at the Benefactor level contact [email protected]
August 12. Opening Night Cocktail Party. On the Showhouse Grounds 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Admission $100.00 per person.
August 17. Celebrity Luncheon at The Country Club of Sapphire Valley. The after-lunch speaker will be nationally acclaimed architect Keith Summerour. $150.00 per person.
August 21. Solar eclipse. We cannot claim credit but it is big. The first total solar eclipse to be visible in Cashiers since the 1500s and there won’t be another until 2300. From beginning to end the eclipse will last over 2 hours. The period of totality will be 2 minutes 30 seconds depending upon your exact location. Authorities predict the town will be quite crowded on August 21 and the preceeding weekend. Already rooms in and around Cashiers are heavily booked so make your plans early if you plan to stay overnight. If you are one of the many people expected in town this day visit the Showhouse early so you can be outside for the big event.
August 12-27. Throughout the Showhouse there will be a Refreshments Tent on the Showhouse Grounds complete with tables and chairs. From 1:00 to 4:30 PM iced tea and cookies will be served. Champagne, wine, and beer will be available for purchase. On these afternoons there may be “pop up” speakers talking about the history of Cashiers.
There will be a tent located at the parking lot for merchants from out-of-town as well as the local community selling an outstanding array of gifts, clothing, and decorative accessories. Plan to drop in while waiting for the trolley or after visiting the Showhouse.
